General Description:

The lion is one of the big cat carnivores, found in Africa, a small pocket of India and Asia. They live in different habitats, from bushland to forested regions, but they prefer grasslands. Male lions are best recognised by their mane (though some male lions have none), and female lions are probably best known for their complex socialisation and cooperation with one another while hunting. Lions have distinct sexual dimorphism (males are bigger / have manes) and gendered hunting roles. Because of their ability to coordinate sophisticated attacks, they will take down prey much larger than themselves. Lions will sometimes group into prides, but all male lions go through a nomadic period (which sometimes never ends) or will sometimes form bachelor groups. All lions are considered Vulnerable or Endangered and are primarily threatened by hunting.
