Southern Bobuck – There’s No Place Like Home

General Description:
The southern bobuck, or mountain brushtail possum (Trichosurus cunninghami), is a nocturnal, semi-arboreal Australian possum. It has since been hesitantly divided into two species, moving from the ‘Mountain Brushtail Possum’ to the ‘Southern Bobuck’ and ‘Northern Bobuck.’ Bobucks, unlike common brushtails, are not found in urban areas because their diet is quite restricted.
They nest in tree hollows, and will occasionally be found on the ground eating fungi. They are noisy when foraging, often heard crashing through the tree canopy. They are capable of both monogamous and polygynous relationships. Once they find their home, they will stay there for the rest of their lives. The bobuck may be the world’s longest living marsupial species.
